About SunStrong Management

SunStrong Management is an independent asset manager for renewable energy infrastructure — roughly 6 GW under management, including more than 500,000 residential solar and storage systems and 900+ commercial and utility-scale assets across 50+ markets. We sit between asset owners and the day-to-day reality of keeping systems online: operations and maintenance, field service, customer care, billing and collections, and investor reporting.

We were built by solar-industry veterans who stepped in to keep systems producing when others stepped back. We are growing quickly — through portfolio acquisitions and organic expansion — and we run one operational standard at every scale. We make decisions with data, we measure what we manage, and we expect the systems we build to prove their value in the numbers.

The Opportunity

For most homeowners, the mobile app is SunStrong. It is where they pay a bill, ask a question, book a technician, and check whether the system on their roof is doing its job. Today that experience is fragmented. Many of the 500,000+ homeowners we serve came to us through the failure of the companies that installed and financed their systems, and they inherited those companies' apps along with their solar. Some of those apps still run, some run poorly, and none were designed to work together or to be part of one coherent customer experience.

We are hiring a  Product Manager, Consumer and Mobile Applications to own the vision, roadmap, and execution for everything homeowners touch on their phones. You will decide how to absorb and gracefully evolve the legacy applications we have taken on — what to keep running, what to migrate, what to retire, and how to move customers without losing their trust — and you will build entirely new capability on top: customer care, bill payment, field service requests, and independent monitoring of a homeowner's own generation assets, free of any single OEM's portal.

This role reports to the VP of Product Management and works directly with Customer Care, Servicing and Collections, Field Service Operations, Fleet Telemetry, Engineering, Legal and Compliance, and the design team. The goal is plain: make SunStrong the industry leader in elegant self-service for homeowners, measured by adoption, resolution without a phone call, and on-time payment.

What You'll Do

Set the vision and roadmap
  • Own the product vision, strategy, and multi-quarter roadmap for SunStrong's homeowner-facing mobile and web applications, and defend the sequencing to executive stakeholders and operating teams.
  • Define the end-to-end homeowner experience across care, payment, service, and monitoring, so that the product feels like one SunStrong rather than a collection of inherited parts.
Absorb and evolve the legacy applications
  • Inventory the inherited consumer apps from bankrupt providers — what each does, who still uses it, what it costs to run, and what risk it carries — and decide which to sustain, migrate, consolidate, or retire.
  • Plan and lead customer migrations that preserve trust: account and credential continuity, payment-method and autopay transfers, communication plans, store listing and release management, and clear sunset dates.
  • Evaluate build, buy, and partner options for the target platform, and document the recommendation, its basis, and the operating cost of each path.
Build the next generation of homeowner self-service
  • Deliver elegant self-service for customer care, including account management, case creation and status, knowledge and guided troubleshooting, and handoff to an agent when the app cannot resolve the issue.
  • Deliver bill pay and billing transparency: invoices, payment methods, autopay, payment plans, and delinquency communications that are clear, compliant, and respectful of the customer.
  • Deliver field service requests end to end: request, scheduling, technician tracking, and resolution, integrated with the Field Service and Salesforce teams.
  • Define independent monitoring for homeowners' own generation and storage assets, working with Fleet Telemetry so that production, system health, and alerts are accurate and are not tied to any single OEM portal.
Lead with data
  • Define and own the metrics this product is accountable for: monthly active users, legacy-to-SunStrong migration rate, self-service resolution and call-deflection rate, on-time payment and autopay adoption, field-service request completion, app store rating, crash-free sessions, and cost to serve.
  • Instrument features before launch, run experiments, and report on realized value after release rather than only on delivery.
  • Run continuous discovery with homeowners, customer care agents, and field technicians, and bring evidence rather than opinion to prioritization debates.
Operate across the organization
  • Serve as the connective tissue between Customer Care, Servicing and Collections, Field Service Operations, Fleet Telemetry, Engineering, Design, Legal and Compliance, and external vendors.
  • Ensure the products meet the obligations attached to consumer servicing: PCI-DSS for payment handling, consumer privacy and consent, accessibility, FDCPA and UDAAP considerations in collections communications, and app store policy requirements.
  • Write requirements engineers can build from on the first pass, own launch readiness including data migration, testing, support training, and adoption, and communicate trade-offs clearly to audiences from customer care agents to the executive team.
What Success Looks Like

First 30 days — You have inventoried every inherited and current consumer application, quantified usage, cost, and risk for each, and talked with homeowners and care agents about where the experience breaks. The VP of Product Management and operating leaders are aligned behind a prioritized problem inventory and a proposed disposition (sustain, migrate, or retire) for each legacy app.

First 90 days — A published, funded 12-month roadmap and target-state experience; a build, buy, or partner decision made and approved; the first legacy-app migration underway with a defined sunset date; and one new self-service capability in production with measured movement on a named baseline metric.

12 months — A majority of homeowners who use an app are on the unified SunStrong experience; legacy apps with a retirement plan are retired or on a dated path to it; and bill pay, care, and field service requests are available in-app. Call deflection, on-time payment, and app store ratings have improved against the baselines, and the first independent monitoring release is in homeowners' hands.

Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years in product management, owning consumer-facing software products end to end — discovery through launch and iteration.
  • 3+ years owning native mobile applications (iOS and Android) in production, including app store release management, versioning, and the day-to-day realities of supporting a live consumer user base.
  • Demonstrated experience with transactional consumer flows such as account management, payments or billing, and customer support, where accuracy and trust matter as much as polish.
  • Experience migrating, consolidating, or sunsetting applications or platforms — moving real users from an old product to a new one without losing them.
  • Strong analytical skills: SQL fluency, product analytics, and experimentation, with the habit of defining success metrics before building.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to move between engineering detail and executive summary without losing either audience.
  • A track record of leading cross-functional initiatives to completion and earning followership without formal authority.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in solar, distributed energy, utilities, telecom, or another business with a large installed base and a field service component.
  • Experience building monitoring or device-data experiences for consumers, including production dashboards, alerting, and connected-device or IoT applications.
  • Experience in consumer financial services or fintech subject to payments and collections regulation (PCI-DSS, FDCPA, UDAAP, state requirements).
  • Experience integrating customer-facing apps with Salesforce Field Service and Service Cloud, billing, ERP, or payments platforms.
  • Experience integrating products and customers following an acquisition or portfolio transition.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG), design systems, and applying AI to customer self-service, such as guided troubleshooting and agent handoff.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, computer science, design, or a related field; advanced degree welcome but not required.
