Role Summary
The Procurement Commodity Manager will own end-to-end procurement execution and supplier management for OEM solar equipment and service parts supporting a large installed base of 500,000+ residential solar systems and 350 commercial solar sites. This role is accountable for ensuring timely part availability, optimizing cost, improving supplier performance, and driving effective RMA/warranty recovery processes to support service SLAs and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Execution
· Execute procurement of OEM service parts (inverters/microinverters, optimizers, batteries, gateway/comms, modules, BOS/mounting)
· Manage RFQs, pricing comparisons, and negotiations with OEMs/distributors.
· Issue POs, manage confirmations, and maintain accurate lead-time visibility.
· Support development of supply agreements and purchasing terms (rebates, freight terms, MOQs, payment terms)
Supplier Performance Management
· Own supplier relationship management and escalation processes
· Track supplier performance metrics including OTD, lead time adherence, fill rate, quality/defect issues.
· Maintain supplier scorecards and drive quarterly business reviews (QBRs)
Service Parts Availability / Planning Partnership
· Collaborate with service operations and planning teams to translate demand signals into purchase plans.
· Support reorder policy governance (min/max, reorder points), approved alternates, and product transition management (EOL)
· Improve parts availability while controlling inventory health and cash.
RMA & Warranty Credit Recovery
· Manage RMA process coordination with OEMs/distributors to reduce cycle time and aged returns.
· Ensure warranty claims are supported with correct documentation and serial traceability if required.
· Track credit status, resolve disputes, and drive improved warranty recovery rates.
Analytics, Governance & Compliance
· Tracks spend, pricing performance (PPV), expedite freight, savings, and warranty recovery.
· Build and maintain monthly KPI reporting for procurement and supplier performance.
· Ensure purchasing compliance, supplier list governance, and audit-ready documentation.
Required Qualifications
· 5-7 years’ experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain (service parts preferred)
· Experience working with OEMs and distributors in technical equipment categories.
· Strong negotiation skills and comfort managing commercial terms.
· Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, etc.) and Excel
· Strong analytical ability and KPI discipline
· Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional outcomes with Service Ops, Planning, Finance
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in solar/renewable energy, residential/commercial service operations, or field service supply chains
· Experience managing warranty/RMA workflows and credit recovery processes.
· Familiarity with serialized equipment traceability and compatibility/alternates management
· Exposure to supplier scorecards, QBRs, and sourcing contracts
